Licensed Family Day Home in Alexandria, VA

Home-Based Child Care for Every Age and Every Shift

From your baby's first months through the year before kindergarten, we care for your child in our home with the kind of close attention only a small setting can give.

At The Tree House Child Care, we are a licensed family day home working with the City of Alexandria, which inspects our home. We welcome four children at a time so each one is truly seen, and we follow a curriculum aligned with the Department of Education that grows with your child. Because some parents work nights, we offer both daytime and overnight care.

  • Care for children from infancy through pre-kindergarten
  • Small group of only four children per shift
  • Daytime plus evening and overnight availability
  • 30 hours of provider training completed every year
  • Home regularly inspected by the City of Alexandria

Care That Fits Your Child and Your Schedule

Whether you need someone to hold your newborn through their first months, a warm place for your toddler to learn and play, or overnight care because your job runs past dark, you have one home and one caregiver for all of it. Close, personal attention at every stage from infancy to pre-kindergarten.

Home-Based Child Care

In our home, your child learns and plays in a small group of no more than four children at a time, following a curriculum aligned with the Department of Education that carries them right up to kindergarten. Our Pre-Kindergarten Program, Kindergarten Readiness activities, and Small-Group Learning cover letters, numbers, daily routines, and the social skills that make the first day of school feel familiar.

Because we welcome only four children, your child is never one small face in a crowded room. We keep a running record of each child's progress, so you always know how they are growing, and we shape each day around where your child actually is rather than a one-size-fits-all schedule.

Nighttime Child Care

Finding someone you trust with your child after dark is one of the hardest parts of working a night shift. When your job runs past dark, your child still has a warm, familiar place to be — the same one caregiver, the same small setting, and the same Department of Education-aligned routine after hours as during the day. We welcome four children in the afternoon and evening once the daytime group has gone home, so the two never overlap.

Overnight Care, Second-Shift Care, and Evening Child Care are hard to find in Alexandria, and here your child follows a calm bedtime rhythm and wakes to the same steady hands they know. You can head to work knowing your little one is resting, settled, and looked after in a home built for a handful of children, not a crowded room.

Infant & Toddler Care

From your baby's first months onward, we hold, feed, and settle your little one on a rhythm that follows their needs, then guide them as they grow into curious toddlers. Our Early Development Tracking keeps a record of each milestone, so you can see how your child is moving, playing, and learning across the day.

A newborn or toddler needs steady, attentive hands, and with only four children in our care that attention is always close. We hold all the required certificates and complete 30 hours of training every year, so the youngest child in our home is looked after with care you can count on.

Meals and Nutrition

Nutritious Meals, Held to Virginia's Standards

We cook for the children here, so there is nothing for you to pack. And what goes on your child's plate is not left to whatever happens to be quick: Virginia sets the nutrition standard for a licensed family day home that serves its own food, and our home is inspected against it.

That standard follows the meal patterns of the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program: milk, fruit and vegetables, grains and protein, in portions sized for your child's age. No fast food. No junk food. And if your little one is still hungry, second helpings of those same foods are always offered.

  • Every meal and snack prepared here by Gloria, with nothing for you to send
  • Meals and snacks timed to the hours your child is with us, whether that is a morning, a full day, or an overnight
  • No more than three hours between one meal or snack and the next while your child is awake
  • Portions sized for your child's age, with second helpings of the same wholesome foods
  • Babies fed on their own schedule, and always held while they take a bottle
  • How food is stored and served is part of the same licensing inspection that covers the rest of our home
